Frequently Asked Questions

01. Where are the local eats?
In Oakhurst:
• South Gate Brewing Company
• Ernas Elderberry House (more expensive)
• Smokehouse 41 has amazing BBQ
• Oakhurst Grill and Whiskey 41 is a great steakhouse and bar
• Plazuelas Mexican or El Cid for Mexican in Oakhurst, Casa Valasquez in Bass Lake

02. Can we bring our boat? Do you have enough parking for a boat? Is there a boat slip?
There is not a boat slip as we are not directly on the lake. However, the launch ramp is less than 2 miles away. We have a large loop driveway and plenty of parking for your boat trailer should you bring one! Please remember you must register your boat once you are on the lake. Visit Miller's Landing to obtain that.

03. Are there any off the beaten path fun things to do around the area?
Yes! There is a fun little western town in North Fork called Bandit Town. It is a great place to let the kids run around and play cowboys and indians, have a wedding, or listen to the music at one of their many concerts.

The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is fun filled excursion for the whole family. Train rides, gold panning, a museum, and a small cafe are just a few of the things to see and do while you are in the area. https://ymsprr.com/

Of course there is always a day spent on Bass Lake where you can rent jet skis or boats at either Millers Landing https://www.millerslanding.com, The Forks Resort https://www.theforksresort.com/  , or Bass Lake Boat Rentals https://basslakeboatrentals.com/

Enjoy visiting wineries or golf? Idle Hour winery in Oakhurst is open all year round and offers handcrafted wines. https://idlehourwinery.com/winery/ or play a few rounds golf on the beautiful 9 hole River Creek Golf Course in Ahwahnee. https://www.rivercreekgolfcourse.com/

For all hiking and trail info see https://www.alltrails.com/

04. Do I need a fishing license to fish in Bass Lake?
You do need a fishing license any time you fish in California. To obtain one please see https://wildlife.ca.gov/

05. Should I bring groceries or is there a store nearby?
The nearest town is Oakhurst and there are two major grocery chains there, Raley's and Vons. If you are a fan of bulk shopping or are staying for awhile Costco in Fresno is a great option! It’s not that far so everything stays cold enough.
